Tom Hiddleston has had his James Bond dreams dashed because he is "too smug", according to reports. It marks the latest in a year of bad press for the British actor, who has been linked with the 007 role ever since Daniel Craig hinted he was eager to leave the long-running franchise.
According to the New York Post gossip column Page Six, Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has nearly convinced Craig to return to the role, despite the famously grouchy actor claiming he'd rather "slash his wrists" than play 007 once again -- something he later wrote off as untrue.
But the column also added that Broccoli was turned off Hiddleston, long rumoured to be the next Bond, for being "smug and not tough enough" for the role.

Ian McKellen, 77, the English actor best known for his role as Gandalf in Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy (plus “The Hobbit”), told BBC News’“HARDtalk” that he did not choose to portray Dumbledore in “Harry Potter” after Richard Harris died because the latter did not like him.
“When they called me up and said would I be interested in being in the ‘Harry Potter’ films, they didn’t say what part,” McKellen told the BBC. “I worked out what they were thinking, and I couldn’t... I couldn’t take over the part from an actor who I’d known didn’t approve of me.”
Harris, the original Dumbledore (a character thought to be making a comeback in the “Fantastic Beasts” prequels), died after filming the second movie in 2002.
